As a reflection of General Electric (GE) and AirAsia group’s long-standing relationship, we unveiled a special livery featuring GE’s corporate colours and logo in 2016. Not many know this, but GE has been a huge part of our success. When Tony and Datuk Kamarudin Meranun first acquired AirAsia for one ringgit, they also inherited RM40mil of debt. GE’s financing arm, GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), took the risk of refinancing the debt on AirAsia’s planes and engines and the rest is, as they say, history. GECAS has been our leasing partner ever since.
